Kites with Friends - Piece and Quilt with Precuts

As many of you might already know, I am a frugal quilter.  I use every bit of fabric that I can and save even the tiniest scraps.  So can you believe that I made an entire quilt with so little leftover that I could hold it in the palm of my hand?!?!  I am very serious.  That is all that I had leftover.  The quilt I made from Christa Watson's new book Piece and Quilt with Precuts is called "Kites" and there was so little cutting that I almost thought I was forgetting a step.  :)

I hope you have been following along on the amazing blog hop that Christa has organized.  If not, you can find the entire lineup HERE.  It was really hard to choose which quilt I wanted to make.  There are so many amazing designs and Christa does a great job leading you through each quilt start to finish.  If you want to get your hands on a book of your own, you can find it HERE.  OR.... She has given me an electronic version to share with one lucky person.  Just leave a comment below and I will randomly draw a winner after the hop is over.

There are two other amazing bloggers that chose to make the Kites quilt from Christa's book.  Make sure to check them out!

MONDAY AUGUST 28 – KITES

For my version of the Kites pattern I found the most amazing layer cake.  This fabric spoke to me.  I just fell in love with it.  It is One for You, One for Me by Pat Sloan for Moda.  I just HAD to find the charm pack and mini charm of this fabric because it was such a perfect fit for Kites.  It wasn't easy, and I had to wait a few days for the mail to arrive, but it was worth it.  So, without further ado.....here is my version of Kites:

Don't mind the filters on this one.  I just thought it was pretty.

The quilt is a whopper of a queen size.  I couldn't find a place to get the whole thing photographed at once (or pressed decently now that I look at it).

Ack, don't mind that loose thread there either.  Oops.

And just to share something funny with you.  The photo below is of a project that I brought to my recent retreat.  I had purchased everything for this quilt a couple of years ago because I just loved this particular batik and decided it was time to try it out.  Of course, it sat on my shelf for about 2 (maybe 3) years!  But, just to show you how much I love this fabric....

It is the exact same fabric line in batik!  Isn't that crazy?

Thanks for making this stop on Christa's Blog Hop.  Again, make sure to check out all of the amazing variations throughout the hop!  And don't forget to comment below for a chance to win!  (make sure to leave an email if you are a no-reply blogger).

Happy Quilting!!

  28. It's hard to decide which quilt to make first from Christa's book. There are so many patterns that I like. However, I would miss having lots of scraps at the end of a project, so Kites might have to wait. swalker287(at)aol(dot)com.
