Finally a Finish!

My quilting has been so scattered lately.  My To-Do list is out of control!  I look at it, then I start something new.  Have you ever been there?  Where you just can't seem to put the finishing touches on projects?

I have been wanting to work on mini things lately.  Last weekend I tried paper piecing for the first time.  (I will share that story later after I quilt it).  Then I browsed pincushion patterns for hours.  Ooops.  Still haven't found a favorite.  If you have suggestions, leave them in the comments.  :)
Then I went and bought some sand for filling the pincushions that I will eventually make.

I also received my fabric for the #2016Cloud9NewBlock Blog Hop.  Our 2016 New Quilt Bloggers group was given the opportunity to design blocks with Cloud9 Organic Cirrus Solids.  An awesome palette "Berry Harvest" was created by our hosts: Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl, Cheryl @Meadow Mist Designs, and Stephanie @Late Night Quilter.  I am so excited.  It will be my first tutorial.  There will be so many beautiful blocks to see.  Make sure to check out the blog hop in September!
Here's a little sneak peek at the color selection:

So pretty!

But now...
A FINISH!  Yeahoo!
Recently a co-worker requested a baby quilt for her niece's new baby that is on the way.  She said the baby shower was in a slightly nautical theme and I thought "Ooo Pirates!"  I made a little hint for my co-worker to bring to the shower.  You can see it here.  Not quite a match, but still fun.  I just made some random rows and put them together.  It turned out pretty cute I think.  She loves it, and that is what really matters.

Last week I tried hand binding for the first time on a little 12x12 square.  This time I did the WHOLE quilt.  And I didn't get bored or even stop at all.  Granted, it was a baby quilt, but still an accomplishment.

Aren't those little pirates so cute?!

The chevron backing was a huge hit.  Super soft flannel.

My co-worker just loved the mixing of the light blues and greys mixed with the primary colors.  She said that way it can grow with the kid and won't be too "baby".

I brought the quilt into the office and the requests are just piling up.  I am going to have my hands full for sure, I just have to make sure to meet all of my deadlines.  :)

  1. looks great, super binding, and more orders, or requests, wonderful, you are going to be kept so busy.

  2. Can't wait to see what you come up with for the block hop Jen. There should be a big variety of designs!

  3. Jen, what a cute quilt! Is that flannel? I can see why orders will be piling up! Looking forward to your design for the blog hop!

  4. A wonderful finish. Pirates rock! I have received my Cloud 9 bundle today. I am so excited! I can't wait to see what all of us will come up with. =) Yeah!

  5. Hi Jen, I love the fabric for the baby quilt and I am sure your friend's child will treasure it.

    1. Thanks Mary! I am happy with the way it turned out.
My friend liked it so much she was thinking she might want one to match for herself, pirates and all. hahaha :)

  6. Congratulations on your finish Jen and yes I've been having difficulty finishing things lately as well. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with my to do list....and like you I have received my fabric for the block hop and I'm excited to put a block together.

  7. That first paragraph... you've described my life. ;-) There's so much pretty fabric, I often have a hard time focusing. Even now that I just finished a big project, I have about a dozen options at the forefront of my mind to work on next. I love the palette of the Cirrus Solids and can't wait to work with them. (I'm participating, too!) I love those pirates. I have a baby quilt to make for a friend, so I may need to focus on that one first. :-)

  8. Jen, my 'To Do' list is never ending. The more time I spend online, the longer the list gets, and then I flit from project to project. I love the colours and theme of your quilt - a baby quilt that will be loved for many years.

I hope you have a wonderful day.
Happy Quilting!
