Star Blossom by Dave & Tish + A Giveaway!

Awhile back I was given the opportunity to test a new pattern for some quilty friends.  Dave @ Dave the Quilt Engineer and Tish @ Tish's Adventures in Wonderland have released their first quilt pattern today and I have to say I was honored to be asked to test it.  Both of them have such great taste and amazing talent.

As soon as I started pulling fabrics for the quilt, I knew my version was going to give an entirely different perspective on the same pattern.  Star Blossom is a great design that suits all fabric choices.  I can personally envision it in at least 10 different color schemes.  Black and White, Fun Florals, Loud Color Explosions, I could go on and on.  You can make the design read calm and delicate or sharp and vibrant just by choosing a different fabric. I decided to make mine into a candy shop.
Yup, candy shop.  Think cotton candy and taffy and lollipops.  So, without further ado, here is my quilt top (I have yet to decide how to quilt this one, sorry).

Quilts with feet!  :)

Isn't it just a fabulous design?  Tish and Dave are even giving a special deal to those who want to purchase the pattern before Sunday, June 11th.  You can get all the details and see other versions of the quilt at Tish's Adventures in Wonderland.

But wait...there's more!  They are giving away a few digital copies of their pattern.  One of them right from this site.  All you have to do is comment on this post.  Let me know what color scheme you would use for Star Blossom.

Happy Quilting Everyone!

  1. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fabrics you used for this quilt. It gives the quilt a completely different look. I think most of us are visual people and it's so great to be able to show people all the different possibilities a quilt can offer. We thank you so much for pattern testing for us and the input you gave us! Without you guys, this pattern probably wouldn't have happened. Any time you need me (or David) to pattern test, I'm only a few key strokes and a click away <3

  2. It's so sweet Jen - just like a candy shop! :) I like that you used a print for the background, it gives the pattern a completely different feel. Great job!

  3. Lovely fabrics Jen, and the striped border is great. I have already chosen my deep purple, medium blue, & teal, and a grey for the contrast. Now I might need to think about a border as well, as yours is stunning.

  6. It definitely is a sweet quilt and I do like that you chose to use a fun print for the background. At first when I quickly saw your quilt, I thought it had a Southwestern feel so now I could see doing this in a turquoise, coral and tan combination. So many fabric ideas for this wonderful pattern. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Beautiful job and wow the fabric combo makes yours look so different, so much fun to see how each one takes on a different effect. I was telling Tish I thought a patriotic theme wall hanging would be fun.

  9. Wow! You have definitely given this quilt a whole new look, and it is so much fun. I agree that this pattern would work with a lot of fabric combos. I am thinking it would be fun in batiks.

  10. I'm loving your interpretation oh Dave and Tish's wonderful new pattern! I hadn't considered a print background. I'll have to think carefully about what I have in my stash that would do this pattern justice.

  13. Wow, what a fun quilt. I love seeing different color schemes. I'd like to try this quilt with a gray/steel colored background and go really scrappy with the stars... Just about everything I do is really scrappy...

  14. I love your take on this pattern. The background you choose turned it into a pattern that reminds me of an Aztec or Greek mosaic. How fun is that! I'm leaning toward doing a black and white version or yellow, aqua and coral combo.

  16. Beautiful work! My first version of this quilt would probably be in the classic combo of blue, white, and yellow.

  17. OOH yours is different again! The block corners really pop as opposed to the star centres. You and I had similar thoughts of NOT doing a white background. I'll be watching to see how you quilt it...

  18. I like seeing different versions of this great pattern and now wish I could go visit a candy shop! (Though not as much as I want to visit a quilt shop!)
