For the love of the Longarm...

This past winter I was finally able to find the time and a local shop to quilt a full quilt on a longarm machine.  I had previously done a short training session and played around on them at quilt shows, but not done my own quilt.

Oh...It was so much FUN!!  I did a freemotion boxy stipple on it and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Did any of you professional longarmers just know in your gut that you wanted to longarm quilt?  I feel like I do.  I know I need a lot more practice renting and I need to try out some pantos and whatnot.  I should probably even try out more machines, but I believe I already know which one I want.

This particular quilt was made for someone special and it was a surprise.  I bought so many 1/3 and 1/4 yards of different fabrics it was ridiculous.  I think I found all of them at 3 different shops.  I was heading out for a retreat and had brought the pattern I had been hoarding and not using since I first started quilting.  It was a Wilmington Prints pattern.  Braided Squares I believe it was called.  Once I figured out the process for the pattern it went together so easily. All chain piecing - my favorite!
And because I was at the retreat center I had plenty of room to put it on the floor and get the layout just right.

I ran out of bobbin thread with only about 6" of corner left to do. *smh*

The backing fabric I found for this was PERFECT!

I still have to get a full finished picture of this one, I completely forgot to get one before giving it to the recipient.
This is the closest I have to a full-finished picture.

Another question for you... if you use a specific pattern for someone in particular, do you ever reuse that pattern for someone else?  Or do you only use it once to keep it special & unique?

  1. this is a super choice of fabrics, and a long arm? Super quilting, That pattern would be a great one for our grandson when he gets his Master Of Science here in New Zealand.

  2. I did just know I wanted to longarm without really trying one out! After hiring someone to quilt for me, my DH said 'why don't you get your own machine and do that for others' . Seed planted!! I have been frame quilting for 15 years and love my Nolting Funquilter.

  4. I could not have closed on my first home without Mr, Pedro ! Pedro and his team went above and beyond for me on this transaction. He handled my very tight turn around time with ease and was always available for me when I had questions (and I had plenty), even when he was away from the office, which I greatly appreciated! He and his team handled many last-minute scrambles with the seller and worked tirelessly to make sure that I could close before my lease (and my down payment assistance, for that matter) expired. Mr Pedro is an incredibly knowledgeable Loan Officer, courteous, and patient. I went through a couple offers on properties before my final purchase and Pedro was there to help with each one, often coordinating with my agent behind the scenes. I felt supported throughout the entire process. Thanks to Pedro and the tireless efforts of his team, I am now a proud homeowner! I would encourage you to consider Pedro and his loan company for any kind of loan.
